Does Joining an on-campus organization benefit me

My Experience Joining a Campus Organization

Before college, I had no intention of joining any campus organizations, and I even vowed never to join a sorority. Yet, in my second semester, I joined Lambda Sigma Gamma, a multicultural sorority. This experience transformed me into a more social person and gave me valuable behind-the-scenes skills, like hosting events, recruiting, and organizing meetings.

Joining the sorority also opened up numerous networking opportunities. I connected with various campus groups, including the tennis club, and even spoke with the school president. This newfound confidence proved invaluable at the ‘Women of the 49ers’ event, which wasn’t even a networking event. I still managed to connect with a professional in my desired field and secure her contact information.

Personal Growth Through Campus Involvement

From conversations with others in campus organizations, many have reported increased public speaking confidence and a stronger support system, leading them to set higher goals. Some have noted improvements in balancing fun and business without significant personal changes.

Benefits of Campus Organizations

Overall, campus organizations offer:
Resume Enhancement: Adds valuable experience and skills.
Increased Competitiveness: Diverse involvement boosts appeal to future employers.
Community Building: Helps create a supportive network.
✔ Academic Support: Resources and accountability for academic success.
Skill Enhancement: Improves time management, communication, and other skills.
